The Fear of God , Holiness and other Issues

Mat 5:13-16 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. "You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't be hidden. People don't light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before people in such a way that they will see your good actions and glorify your Father in heaven."

Comment: We are to be the salt of the Earth. This world has no other illustration of who God is. Surely by now the world should have had an excellent illustration of who God is? And yet, Paul can say of this modern day church the same thing that He said of Corinthian - that we act like the world. If we act like the world why should the world listen to us - we have nothing to say. If there is no longer salt in our conversation for the world to taste, why should they be convinced of the truth that we do not live or demonstrate. If we can't light a lamp for someone so that they can follow the light out of their own darkness, are we still the light of this world. The church has become confused, demoralized and powerless and yet we still selfishly believe that we have something better. But we have!

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Prov 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Comment: The Fear of the Lord is distinguished from all other attitudes by specific products and results it produces in the believer. Fearing God without changing your ways - is not The Fear of the Lord. That is why Israel did not Fear God although they were afraid of His Power. Fearing God without knowing His Love, Wisdom and Grace is like the religious fear of an idol. Fearing God without wanting to please God and do what He desires is the same kind of the fear the devil and his demons have - they fear Him but they continue with their evil and continue to steal, destoy and kill what God loves. But the Fear of the Lord opens your heart to discern between good and evil - it opens your heart to discern the paths of God and the Kingdom of God. The Fear of the Lord gives discernment of spirits and discern the fruit of the trees of man's lives whether they are good or bad, righteous or false. The Fear of the Lord is the also the Love of God that hates what He hates. To Fear the Lord is the opposite of Pride, arrogance and boastings - the two do not exist together. The Fear of the Lord guards the things of God and the way to God - without it you cannot enter the Kingdom of God.

Heb 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Lev 20:24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.

2Co 6:16-18 What agreement can a temple of God make with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said: "I will live and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people." Therefore, "Get away from them and separate yourselves from them," declares the Lord, "and don't touch anything unclean. Then I will welcome you. I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters," declares the Lord Almighty.

Isa 52:11 "Depart! Depart! Go out from there; touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of her; purify yourselves, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.

Comment: Jesus our High Priest is "Holy, harmless, undefiled and separated from sinners" - for that reason we are to be holy, harmless, undefiled and separated from this world, the sin of this world, and the ways of sinners. There need to be space between us and the world so that God can distinguish between who are His and when judgment comes from the Lord we are not in the way of that judgment like Lot and his family were - he lost everything as well as his wife who could not let go. We must live pure lives so that the Spirit of the Lord has a place to abide - as we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Repentance, Forgiveness and Restitution

Heb 12:1 Therefore, having so vast a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, and throwing off everything that hinders us and especially the sin that so easily entangles us, let us keep running with endurance the race set before us (ISV), Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us

Comment: Weights / hindrances and sins creeps in unawares and bring set-back and hinders our spiritual walk. Our hearts become hardened and we do no longer notice things that are warning lights and contrary to our own decisions to follow Jesus. Setting time apart to regularly take stock, allow Holy Spirit to work in us with a Spirit of repentance so that we can seek God in humbling ourselves under His hand - so that we can again forgive people and look at them with compassion and mercy no matter what they have done. Also, so that we can spend time in the Word that washes us, and seek the blood of Jesus that cleanse our very conscience of the dead works of religiousness that takes over, instead of the living acts of the Spirit that works in us. We also need the refocus of our our lives on the things that are above - the things that are Spirit and eternal and of great weight, not the things of this world that are as unstable as pop-corn.

When we humble ourselves - God will lift us up again. When we stand in our own weaknesses and refuse to accept the blame or responsibility for our powerless life, God does not come near to us but instead resist our efforts to boss Him around. However Big and Important we are in this world, in our own eyes, in the eyes of people or just in our own imagination - we are still only in God's eyesight when we live in humility before Him, counting the things of this world according to their real value - worthless in the sight of God. With what then will we stand before God when all we can boast about are the things of this world? While the things of this world might even be offensive to God - the things of the Spirit are the true Gems in the Kingdom of God! There is no Repentance without real humbling of self. There is no humbling of self without letting go of pride. There is not letting go of Pride unless we are truly convicted by the Spirit of God of the sin of boasting against God. Everything we have we have been given. With nothing we came into the world and with nothing we will go - What are the things we will present before God when we die?

Psa 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Comment: This is where we meet God - where we are weak He is strong. Where we are broken in heart - He is close. That means that God is not closest to us when all is well and I have everything that I need, when everything goes well and smooth! In those times it is very important to seek humility and keep remembering God in all we do and not forget all His commands.

All we can boast of it God's Forgiveness of our sins, God's Mercy on us, God Grace and Love and Favour that makes us great! All we can boast of is the work of God in us and His gifts and benefits showered on us.
