The Power of God

No Power without the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:4,5,8 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Act 2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them that ability.

Comment: Seeking "Power" is a road that runs straight to hell. People that seek supernatural power do not mind doing anything to get it. Just like people that seek money will do things that hurts their conscious and destroy their love for God. Power is not available for self gratification - whether it is for becoming famous or rich or whether it is to heal people in order to draw crowds and be honoured. It is sad to say but many "pastors" in Africa seek their power not from God but from witchdoctors. But the administration of God's Power is directly under the Holy Spirit and the "power gifts" of God is managed by Holy Spirit just as He will.

Acts 1:4: ... wait for the promise of the Father.

Comment: Jesus told the disciples that He will ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit and Father will baptize them with the Holy Spirit - Filling them with the Holy Spirit. This prayer of intercession of Jesus took 10 days to deliver the answer. The Holy Spirit did not just "decide" to fall on them, neither was it the disciples that pleaded to receive the Holy Spirit - but it was Jesus interceding with the Father and Father that worked all things according to His will and does all things "in His time". We cannot bypass the Holy Spirit, Jesus or the Father when we come to God to ask for Power or for the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:8 ... and you shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you..

Comment: When Jesus walked with the disciples He was able to give them power over the devil and power to deliver and to heal - He shared His anointing with them - they walked under His mantle. But when He left, none of them did a miracle between the time Jesus ascended to heaven and the Holy Spirit was sent to them. We absolutely "have no power of our own" - what we have after the Holy Spirit has filled us and is alive is us - is the power that comes from Father and from Jesus. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit - we are also filled with the Power of God. When we "run dry" on the Holy Spirit - we "run dry" on the Power of God. Holy Spirit is a person, He is either with us or He has left the building.

Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Eph 5:18 Stop getting drunk with wine, which leads to wild living, but keep on being filled with the Spirit. (ISV)

Comment: (if people kept on drinking wine, no wonder the Holy Spirit left them). Keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit. Father sent the Holy Spirit not just to be with us but to be "in" us. When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit - you are also "filled" with the Holy Spirit - and because Holy Spirit is not "oil" or "wind" or "a feeling" but He is a person, He can only come in where He has room to be and to live. The more room we have for the Holy Spirit in us - the more He will fill us. The less room we have for the Holy Spirit, the more we restrict His work. Holy Spirit is the owner of the House but never the tenant - the House belongs to Him. He will not live in someone else's house. He will also not live together with worldly tenants in the same house. The conclusion is: if Holy Spirit is not welcome in you, you will also not receive power. Holy Spirit only fills where we give place for Him.

There is no Power without the Holy Spirit, and there is no Power where the Holy Spirit does not dwell.

The Wonderful Power of God

The whole Bible is full of instances where God's power is at work - where men and women of God did miracles, signs and wonders through the Power of God. Great and amazing things were done by the Prophets and the Apostles and even the saints of the New Testament. These miracles were signs that God worked with them to confirm their "word" and message that was from Him.

The Power of God was given to the Prophets that were entrusted with the Words of God and the declaration of the ways of God. The Power of God were given to the disciples of Jesus according to what Jesus promised. The disciples of Jesus were not just ordinary men off the street that did not know much of God or Jesus, they were not bystanders. There were many bystanders, many gossips and many that followed the news about what Jesus and the disciple did. But only those that joined themselves to Jesus and associated with Him, benefited from His miracles. Only those that followed on to become His "disciples" - that changed their priorities and life-style, that fully believed every Word He said, received Salvation and became His missionaries. The Holy Spirit did not fill every person in Israel that met Jesus, they had to start their own "relationship" with God. Holy Spirit filled those that committed themselves to God. Holy Spirit filled those that waited on God.

We often neglect to tell people what are the requirements of following Jesus. Yes we need to be saved and our sins need to be forgiven to receive the Holy Spirit. But will we allow Holy Spirit to fill us and fill our lives and take over everything concerning us. That is the only way you can be a disciple of Jesus or be full of the Holy Spirit.

What you hold on to in your own life without giving it to Him - IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN GOD. That means that you have an idol you serve instead of God. Get rid of idolatry or the Kingdom of God will not benefit us at all.

The Power of God is not restricted by someone that lives fully for Jesus Christ. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Are we willing to be humbled and suffer dishonor / name-calling or will these things offend us so that we turn away from Jesus. Are we willing to change our career and follow something that brings no honour or will we be offended when Jesus asks it of us. Are we willing to get rid of every little indulgence in life or will we try to hold on to it and be offended when Jesus asks it from us. Will we be offended when we have to leave people behind that are a snare to us and be unwilling to radically follow Jesus. God will not live in disputed land - the enemy will protest every time we say that Jesus is Lord in our lives.

DEATH to the world. DEATH to sin. DEATH to the works of satan! DEATH to the flesh. DEATH to our own life and ambition. What does it help if we can enjoy any of these things but lose our soul or lose the Power of God that assists us?

God's Power is Available

For every believer - for everyone that wants to follow Jesus in Obedience, Faith and Joy! God will not withhold His Spirit from us when we ask for Holy Spirit and where Holy Spirit has a place to dwell. Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

May the Holy Spirit find a resting place for His foot in your life - like the dove that was sent by Noah out of the Ark. May He dwell in you and become the Director and CEO of your life. May He fill you without restrictions and may you experience the full benefits and supernatural miracles of God in your life.
